Unseen Portraits

Unseen Portraits

“As time passes by and you look at portraits, the people come back to you like a silent echo.” – Henri Cartier-Bresson (1908-2004).

Two exhibitions of fashion and portrait photography by Marilyn Stafford (b. 1925) open across the UK this autumn. The artist’s diverse portfolio comprises commercial imagery and photojournalism – a career which took her across Europe, the Middle East and beyond.

Taking place at Hull International Photography Festival and Lucy Bell Gallery, Hastings, A Fashion Retrospective showcases iconic works capturing designs by the likes of Biba and Chanel. Meanwhile, in Silent Echoes at After Nyne Gallery, London, the selection delves into the archives, presenting many previously unseen portraits of influential figures across fashion, politics, art, film and literature.

Marilyn Stafford: A Fashion Retrospective opens at Hull International Photography Festival from 5-28 October and Lucy Bell Gallery, Hastings, from 27 October-17 November. Silent Echoes runs at After Nyne Gallery, London from 18-30 October.
