Lena Tomasik

Tomasik has embarked on an exploration of memory and dream state – trying to capture the ephemeral sensation of falling asleep. The work also relies largely on memory rather than the more abstract and metaphorical nature of sleep. Colour is used as a symbolic divide between dream states and reality. Red is a manifestation of the physical self – representing the human body – whilst blue is used to show the all-consuming expanse of the subconscious. The figures are seen falling through the dream world back to reality as their limbs are stretched, pulled and filtered through the blue both apart of the dream world but rapidly becoming awake.
